چکیده
For biologically relevant macromolecules such as intrinsically disordered proteins, internal degrees of freedom that allow for shape changes have a large influence on both the motion and function compound. A detailed understanding effect flexibility is needed in order to explain their behavior. Here, we study model system freely-jointed chains three six colloidal spheres, using simulations experiments. We find spite short lengths, conformational statistics are well described by two-dimensional Flory theory, while average translational rotational diffusivity follow Kirkwood-Riseman scaling. Their maximum does not depend length chain, but determined near-wall in-plane diffusion coefficient an individual sphere. Furthermore, uncover shape-dependent effects short-time tetramer chains, non-zero couplings between different diffusive modes. Our findings may implications behavior most likely conformations macromolecular systems biology industry, polymers, single-stranded DNA other chain-like molecules.

Conformations of single polymer chains on surfaces
Frontali et al. [137] showed in 1979 that it is possible to characterize the structure of polymers by analyzing high resolution microscopy images. The authors adsorbed DNA molecules onto mica and imaged them using electron microscopy. From the vectorized contours of single chains, they were able to determine both contour and persistence lengths so that the polymers were fully described in the f...

Particles interacting by a combination of isotropic short-range attraction and long-range repulsion have been shown to form complex phases despite the apparent simplicity of the interparticle potential. Using computer simulations we study the behavior of two-dimensional systems of colloids with such an interaction, focusing on how area fraction and repulsion range at fixed repulsion gradient ma...
متن کاملHomo- and Hetero-bimetallic Flexibly Linked Dinuclear Salphen Complexes
A modification of the previously developed synthetic approach towards dinuclear flexibly linked salphen complexes is successfully utilized for the preparation of heterodinuclear salphen dimers. A dinuclear salphen species with Pd(II) and Cr(III) centers bears a stronger structural resemblance to the related bis-Cr(III) compound than the corresponding mononuclear Cr(III) salphen complex. Therefo...
متن کاملSolubility and molecular conformations of n-alkane chains in water.
We employ molecular dynamics simulations to study the solubility and molecular conformations of n-alkane chains in water. We find nearly exponential decrease in solubility with carbon number up to n-eicosane (C(20)), and excellent agreement with experiment up to n-dodecane (C(12)). We detect no sharp break in the dependence of the solubility upon carbon number. A free energy landscape analysis ...
